They are holding an event called the Five Days of Giving, but the Central Iowa Shelter and Services hopes it inspires Iowans to give the gift of hope all year long.

The shelter is asking the community to donate needed items, but each of the five days is focused on a specific item that is always needed around the shelter.

Monday they asked for donations of toiletries, Tuesday is towels, Wednesday is warm winter clothes, socks and underwear on Thursday, and on Friday, monetary donations.

The program runs through December 21st. Donations are welcome to be dropped off at the Shelter at 1420 Mulberry Street. Monetary donations can be made by texting “forward” to 20222.

The shelter says it houses about 240 people every night.
