Iowa Department of Transportation officials say semi-trucks are jack-knifing and blocking roads throughout the state.

Many trucks were trying to motor on and beat the storm then, when things got too bad they had trouble getting off the interstate.
Ramps all along interstates were closed, or blocked due to stuck cars or trucks.

The ramp off I-35/80 at Douglas Avenue in Urbandale had a massive line-up through Wednesday night.  The line of semis sat on the ramp for hours before being freed.

The ramp leads to the Pilot truck stop where drivers were trying to make it to stay the night. The trucks were lined up by the dozens.

This snow storm means most drivers are worried about getting home for Christmas.

“That’s starting to get a little doubtful I might make it,” one driver said. “I got to get this load done and probably going miss Christmas at home”… “I’m just praying I can make it home for my wife and kids.”

The Iowa DOT is strongly recommending commercial vehicles consider postponing their trips through Iowa until conditioners improve.
