The wind industry has come up with a deal of its own for lawmakers to consider.

Wind turbine manufacturers say they’re okay with a plan to gradually phase out the tax credit over six years as part of the fiscal cliff discussion if lawmakers renew the credit before it expires at the end of the month.

The American Wind Energy Association said that the industry will be able to compete against other power sources like coal and natural gas by 2018, so long as the credit doesn’t disappear before then.

If the credit does expire up to 37,000 jobs are on the line.
