Nearly 24 bald eagles congregated along the banks of the Des Moines River Tuesday.

The majestic birds perched in the trees near the bridge on Southeast 14th and watched the water for some dinner.

Bird watchers gathered along the bike path nearby to watch them.

Eagle Watcher Nan King told Channel 13, "Oh it's just majestic.  It almost takes your breath away, you see them take off and their wings just spread so wide and they glide. They look like they are floating in the air with no effort to anything they do.”

Last year around the same time nearly 50 Eagles gathered near Saylor Township and put on an airshow for bird watchers.
