A Dubuque man accused of killing a toddler has pleaded not guilty.

34-year-old Nicholas Reed entered a written plea Wednesday morning.

Reed is charged with first-degree murder for killing 2-year-old Bentley Randall.

Police say the boy’s mother dropped him off with Reed before going to work on November 23rd.

When she returned, she found her son injured and took him to the hospital.

Medical professionals say Bentley suffered severe burns and head trauma.

The child died a couple of days later.

Reed’s trial is set later this week.
