Water Works crews are being stretched thin as the city’s water mains are put to the test.

Wednesday a water main break near 49th and Douglas put a damper on some businesses.

The main broke around 3 p.m. leaving about 25 customers without water, including Merle Hay Mall and Merle Hay Cinemas.

Douglas overnight
At 2 a.m. Thursday crews were still on the scene preparing the hole to be filled.  They say work is expected to take all day and Douglas near the area will be down to one lane in each direction.
Germania Break

Around 1 a.m. Thursday Water Works was called to Germania Drive near 41st Street for another water main break.

Water was pouring through yards and out onto the street.

One resident said there was water in her basement.

Water Works crews arrived just before 3 a.m. and were working to locate the break and shut off water to the area.

A plow was used to create a barrier to try to keep water from running further down the street.
