A second doctor is facing punishment for allegedly miss-prescribing pain killers to patients at a Des Moines pain clinic that closed last summer.

The Iowa Board of Medicine filed disciplinary charges against 40-year-old Andrzej Szczepanek on January 11th. Documents say he “promiscuously prescribed, administered or dispensed controlled substances to numerous patients, some of whom suffered drug overdose and died.”

The board will take up the case in April.

Szczepanek is not facing criminal charges like his former co-worker Dr. Daniel Baldi.

Baldi is charged with ten counts of involuntary manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
