Firefighters from three departments worked to extinguish a fire at a Grinnell home Friday morning.

Crews were called to 1127 Broad Street around 7:30. The home is about two blocks west of Grinnell College’s campus and sits next door to the Grinnell Historical Museum.

When firefighters arrived there were flames shooting through the roof. They say the wind made the fire spread quickly and made it difficult to put out.

The home’s owner was not there, but someone renting an apartment in the home was and was able to get out safely.

We’re told the historic house had recently gone through major renovations to be restored.

Crews from Malcolm, Gilman, and Grinnell all worked to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
