More Iowa National Guard soldiers are preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

A send-off ceremony is being held at the end of January in Ottumwa for about 100 soldiers from the 833rd Engineer Company, based out of Ottumwa.

The company, formerly known as Company B, 224th Engineer Battalion, has previously been deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The soldiers will first be sent to Fort Bliss, Texas for training and then will be transferred to Afghanistan.

The company’s mission is to remove physical obstacles, identify and reduce minefields and explosive devices, execute mobility missions, and perform infantry missions.

The send-off ceremony is scheduled for Monday, January 28th at the Hellyer Student Life Center on Indian Hills Community College’s campus. It begins at 10:00 a.m.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
