Soon Iowans will have a more concrete idea of how much parts of the Governor’s proposed education reform plan could cost.

Department of Education Director Jason Glass will hold a press conference Monday to discuss the estimated costs of the teacher leadership and compensation parts of Governor Branstad’s proposal.

The proposal is based on recommendations from the Task Force on Teacher Leadership and Compensation created by the Legislature last year.

On Monday, Director Glass will go into more details on increasing starting teacher pay, paying the best teachers more, and giving brand-new teachers a reduced load in their first year so they can spend more time learning from veteran teachers.

Glass has said if the Governor’s proposal is enacted, it should give the state a permanent waiver from the No Child Left Behind rules enacted in 2001.
