KRYSTLE CLEAR: I Will Not Be Silenced!

The past several days, I faced a very serious challenge- for my career, and for me, personally. I didn’t have a voice.

I know, I know, it’s not that bad, but all joking aside, it was pretty tough doing my job sounding the way I did. (Some days my co-workers compared me to Marge Simpson… other days, they said I just sounded like a man, haha.)

I’ve lost my voice in the past, but it  has never been gone for so long! There were some days where I could only be heard when I screamed! Eventually, it wore on so long I had to go the doctor (I had some accompanying symptoms that also weren’t going away like a cough and sore throat.) But when I asked him (no, begged him) “what can I do to bring my voice back quicker?” His response? A chuckle, and “just rest it.” Ya, that’s impossible with my job. I basically talk for a living. And, if I’m being honest, it was more just impossible for me. I love to talk, and telling me not to talk was like telling a chocolate addict they couldn’t eat the chocolate bar right in front of them.

So I tried everything. I drank more tea with honey and lemon in 5 days than most people do in a year (to give you an idea just how much I really drank- I bought a package of lemon tea for my Kuerig and now only have 1 left), I tried fresh ginger, candied ginger (gross by the way), lemon water, echinacea pills, echinacea teas, several different kinds of cough drops, “all natural remedies” promising a quick recovery from illness, Vicks vapor rub, vitamin C drops- you name it, I was willing to try it.

But I don’t know what it is about this season’s sicknesses going around- they are brutal and they hang on. It’s been going on 3 weeks now and my silly “cold” hasn’t left yet. But from what I hear, that’s the trend. But I’m not giving up. I will beat this thing. And in the meantime, maybe I’ll learn a thing or two. Like, maybe talking is sometimes over-rated. I think we can all make a point to just listen to people a little more. I know I can . :)

What about you? Anyone out there dealing with this annoying bug? What remedies have you tried and how have you beat it? Let me know! I’m curious.
