PARKING INFO: Des Moines’ Snow Ordinance

This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated.

The city of Des Moines’ snow ordinance is in effect and that means no parking is allowed on any residential street.

That’s so wider plows can clear roads faster.

Five neighborhoods have limited off street parking. They are Carpenter, Drake, Drake Park, River Bend and Sherman Hill.

That’s where parking on one side of the street is allowed. Cars in those neighborhoods need to be on the correct side of the street by 7 a.m. to avoid a ticket. Wednesday it’s the side of the street with even-numbered addresses.

Drivers will get some slack though, the city will not issue tickets during this storm but this is the final warning period.  After this storm, ignoring the ordinance will cost you $35.
