SLIP SLIDIN’: Icy Roads Slow Truck Drivers

The snow may have stopped falling, but the mess on Iowa roads will continue to affect travel.
The Department of Transportation is calling on professional truck drivers to share what they are seeing on the roads. They are asking those out in the thick of things to share road conditions and traffic back-ups on social media so the DOT can help gauge where to send road crews.

One Indianola driver told Channel 13 if he had been tweeting he would have said to stay away from interstate-80. “Just driving long, next thing you know you feel the back end come around… here we go.” Eric Morrison was driving on I-80 towards Newton when his truck began to slide this morning. He says the roads were deceiving, they looked clear but there was a layer of ice on the roads.

Morrison stopped at the rest stop near Mitchellville for a brief break then got back on the road to Newton.
