The seasonal flu outbreak is losing steam, the number of states reporting widespread flu dropped from 47 to 42 this week.

In Iowa the illness is still considered to be widespread, but the number of diagnoses decreased to 65 cases.

Outpatient care visits and hospitalizations also dropped, but the same good news can’t be shared for schools.  The number of Iowa schools reporting more than ten percent of students out with the flu increased by 30 percent.

Health officials are reminding everyone to wash your hands often, stay home when you’re sick and most importantly, to get your seasonal flu vaccine.
