Sen. Harkin is set to retire

Senator Tom Harkin recently announced he would not seek re-election in 2014.

In an appearance on IPTV’s Iowa Press the five-term Senator said he has a lot planned for his final two years in office.

“I’m not passing the torch sitting down, I’m going to pass it as a running relay, I’ve got a lot on my plate,” he explained.

Harkin is working on two education bills, one for early education and another aimed at making college more affordable.

He is also working on a retirement program and hopes to expand on his trademark American Disabilities Act by giving people with disabilities more employment opportunities.

Senator Harkin will join Channel 13’s Dave Price, live on Insiders Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
