A Des Moines man who neighbors say used to run an in-home daycare is now charged with sexual abuse that involves several minors.

In a police report obtained by Channel 13, Des Moines Police arrested 48-year old David Smith, who ran a daycare out of his home in the 3200 block of East 52nd street charging him with second degree sexual abuse.

The report alleges Smith inappropriately touched the victims under their clothing.

The alleged incidents occurred over a period of years. A complaint was filed last summer on June 2nd.

Neighbors say Smith and his wife, Lisa Rae, cared for children ranging in age from four to seven years old.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 7th. A judge, meanwhile, has ordered Smith to stay away from the alleged victims and anyone under 18 years old.
