WINTER STORM: Warnings And Advisories In Effect

Snow is rotating back into the Metro as of 2 PM this afternoon. We're watching a large area of low pressure rotating over the Midwest which is resulting more snow moving back into Des Moines. Another 2 to 3 inches of snow is possible on top of the 3.5" already on the ground.

A Winter Storm Warning continues across the entire southeast half of Iowa, including the Des Moines Metro. The warning will be in effect through noon on Wednesday. Snow totals in the warned area will range from 5 to 9" with approximately 6" in the Metro area. As of 1 PM, 3.5" of snow has already accumulated in Des Moines. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect on the northwest fringe of the warning area. This is where snow totals will be slightly lower.

The winds will also become a problem through noon Wednesday. Northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph will lead to blowing and drifting of snow through noon on Wednesday. Roads will remain snow and ice covered.

Highs will stay in the mid-30s this afternoon with lows tonight in the upper 20s.
