A NASCAR Hall of Fame member became an honorary Iowan Wednesday. Governor Branstad held a special ceremony for Rusty Wallace at the capitol.

“Rusty may have been born in Missouri, but he will always be able to claim Iowa as home,” Branstad said.

The event honored Wallace’s contribution to race car driving and his role in designing and developing the Iowa Speedway in Newton.

Wallace is part-owner of the speedway, which opened in 2006.
