A West Des Moines school bus driver has been cited in connection with a crash earlier this week.

West Des Moines police say 42-year-old Anthony Banks has been given a failure to maintain control citation.

Banks was driving a school bus with 11 children on board Monday when the bus skidded off the road in the 500 block of South 53rd while trying to navigate a curve. The bus took out a mailbox, went through a few yards, hit a pickup truck, and then clipped a house. Roads were icy at the time of the crash.

Police say their investigation found Banks was driving too fast for the conditions.

No one on the bus was injured in the accident.

Elaine Watkins-Miller with the West Des Moines school district said she wasn’t able to comment on the repercussions that Banks may face. She says any bus driver within their school district must report all traffic citations both on and off the job. Then the school district must deal with it accordingly.
