Funeral services have been scheduled for an Iowa soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Army Staff Sergeant Steven Blass of Estherville died when the helicopter he was riding in crashed on March 11th.

The 27-year-old is survived by his wife and 16-month old son.

Visitation for Sergeant Blass is Monday at the Estherville high school gym. His funeral will also be at the high school the following afternoon.

Sergeant Blass was on his second tour of duty. There is no word yet on what caused the crash but officials say there was no enemy fire at the time.

Monday, ‘flag man’ will be in Estherville to place nearly 2,000 flags across the town.

Larry Eckhardt has been planting flags for fallen soldiers with the help of volunteers since 2006. This will be his 105th tribute.
