SPRING THAW: Potholes And Weather Damage Revealed
The spring thaw has revealed all the potholes and other damage caused by winter weather.
The non-profit group Trip released a report Wednesday saying Iowa roads cost taxpayers $1.9 billion every year.
It also shows the added costs come from auto repairs, crashes, and fuel wasted in traffic congestion.
The average driver in Des Moines ends up paying more than $1,300 annually due to road conditions.
Trip believes an investment in roads is worth it, because every dollar spent actually saves the driver $5.20.
