The Des Moines Register has been receiving a backlash about an interactive map it posted online.

The digital team posted the map of Iowa’s 348 public school districts Wednesday. It displayed which districts do and which don’t have school resource officers.

It was part of the Register’s reports on guns, crime and school safety.

Editor, Rick Green says there were no names or addresses listed but readers complained about the display. Many said it put children in danger.

Green said “We must be thoughtful in how we convey that information. The manner in which it was done Wednesday did not hit the mark for me.”

The map was only on the website for 30 minutes.
