The owners of a piece of land near Wells Fargo Arena want to use it for a hotel; they just need someone to build it.

The Des Moines Redevelopment Company, a non-profit group made-up of 22 businesses, developers and banks own the land, they want to see a 450-room four-star hotel there some day soon. On Monday, they issued a request of qualifications, seeking a developer to build their dream hotel.

But it’s not just their dream.

Greg Edwards from the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau told Channel 13 the hotel is what event planners want, too. “Meeting planners come to town.  Events planners come to town and they say, `we need the connecting hotel.  We want that hotel right across the street.’  It`d make a big difference.”

Edwards told us Monday he knew this plan was in the works, but didn’t expect it this soon.
