An area bookstore is trying to make sure needy metro children have the opportunity to read.

Half Price Books gave away 2,000 children’s books to area non-profit groups Tuesday.

The store says it’s all possible through community donations, but it takes about a year of work to prepare for the day.

“All through the year we get so many kids books that we’re constantly pulling the old stuff off the shelves and donating those. So from our store, what we generate in store we’re donating year round,” employee Abbi Waugh says.

This is the 15th year the business has given away books to kids in the community.
