The Iowa Department of Transportation says westbound I-80 near Casey has reopened to traffic.

Both westbound lanes had to be closed earlier because a bridge was struck by an oversized load.

The accident happened Monday night in between exit 83 and exit 96. The DOT had traffic routed around the closure using the interstate’s exit and entrance ramps at Casey.

Inspectors from the DOT examined the damage Tuesday morning, but the bridge will remain closed until it is deemed safe.
