The American Hockey League didn't stay in Des Moines long as the Iowa Stars, and it didn't fair much better as the Iowa Chops. Maybe the third time will be the charm?

Since the Chops ran into financial problems that caused them to leave Des Moines in 2009 rumors about a possible new AHL team have come and gone like the wind.

None of those ever amounted to anything, but this time things are looking different.

“There’s always been smoke, but this is a real fire. Based on our reporting right now the Houston Arrows, the AHL team and the Minnesota Wild are trying to negotiate a lease that ends and that doesn’t appear to be going well,” Register Sports Reporter Bryce Miller says.

There are no definite answers, but Iowa is definitely still in the cards.
