A Marshalltown man thought he was doing a good deed, helping a friend change the locks on her house.  What he didn't expect is that he and his truck would be attacked by a guy wielding a ninja sword.

It all started when police say 36-year-old William Thompson, came home to find his ex-fiance was having the locks changed at their home and just snapped.

"She was trying to tell me to go inside the house and like I don't want no problems, so it's none of my business what you guys are going through. I'm here doing you a favor," the victim who asked to not be identified said.

Police say Thompson chased after the victim with a ninja sword.

"He falls and he's on the ground and…he gets up and then he comes towards me while I'm inside my truck backing up this guy comes and starts hitting my truck with his sword."

The victim wasn't hurt but his truck has several new dents from the sword.

“I guess that's what I get for being nice."

Thompson is charged with criminal mischief, going armed with intent, and public intoxication.
