The heavy rainfall is creating some of the biggest problems in eastern Iowa.

The ground is already saturated in the Quad Cities as a result of this week’s rain increasing the risk for runoff to quickly lead to flash flooding.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Wednesday and Thursday for the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. River levels are rising, leading to several road closures.

The Mississippi River is currently at a little more than 14.5 feet.

Flood stage is 15 feet and the river is predicted to reach nearly 16 feet by this weekend.
