Child endangerment charges have been filed against a Des Moines couple who just last year were honored by a national program for being a loving adoptive family.

Thirty-eight-year-old Damien Stovall, and his wife 37-year-old Allonna are accused of using a belt or a wooden spoon to punish their children. They are each charged with one count of child endangerment.

Court records show the charges were filed April 5th.

The Stovalls have seven children between the ages of two and 11. They've all been removed from the couple's care.

The Stovalls were recognized in September in a ceremony in Washington, D.C., after adopting four children. They were given the 2012 Angels in Adoption award.

A jury trial has been scheduled for June 12th.
