A Des Moines couple, recently honored for parenting adopted children, is now charged with child endangerment. Just seven months ago, Damien and Allonna Stovall of Des Moines were honored in Washington DC for being 'Angels in Adoption' for offering a safe and loving home for their adopted children.

Now, they're facing criminal charges, accused of abusing two of those children.   Police say the pair struck the children with belts or wooden spoons.

Experts say spanking should not be the only tool parents use to discipline.

"I won't say it's right.  I won't say it's wrong." says Associate Professor Kimberly Greder of the ISU Department of Human Development and Family Stuidies, "What I will say and studies will tell us... spanking will not lead to long term developmental changes with kids that lead to healthy child outcomes."

The Stovalls have been ordered to stay away from their children and all children under 18.
