Earth Day will soon be here and volunteers in the City of Des Moines are celebrating by getting their hands dirty Friday.

Volunteers will meet up at Nollen Plaza downtown at 11:30 p.m. for the Annual Earth Day Trash Bash with crews spreading out from there.

Over a thousand volunteers will help clean up waterways, parks, trails and public spaces.

Last year, volunteers cleaned up more than 24,000 pounds of trash.

Earth Day this year will be Monday, April 22nd and is celebrated globally.
