Drake Relays (WHO-HD)

The Des Moines Police Department says it is committed to additional resources to enhance the safety and security at Drake Relay events this week.

Officers say although Des Moines is considered a low risk for situations like the bombing in Boston, they’ll still be taking extra precautions — including 24 hour video surveillance.

Bomb technicians and bomb-sniffing dogs will be on scene and part of the extra security measures for the relays. Police say if you see a package or bag that you think is suspicious, they ask you to keep visual contact with the item and notify a nearby officer.
