Ames police are looking for a man they say led them on a chase last week in a stolen truck.

Officers tried to pull over a truck around 1:15 a.m. on April 24th near Dayton and Edison streets in Ames, but the driver refused to stop. He stopped near Lincoln Way and Carnegie to let a passenger out and then continued eluding police. The passenger took off on foot and was not caught.

He finally drove the stolen truck into the Skunk River and ran away. Officers were not able to catch him but now they’ve released the name of the man they’re looking for.

Charges are pending against 37-year-old James Choate in the case. Police say Choate has no known address and they’re seeking the public’s help to locate him.

Once caught, Choate will face charges of 2nd degree theft, driving while barred, eluding, reckless driving, and interference with official acts.

If you have any information on his location you’re asked to contact Ames police at 515-239-5317.
