A damaged bridge closed down part of Interstate 35 on Monday.

The DOT says an oversize load severely damaged the bridge near the Winterset exit on I-35 northbound.

The road is closed between the Winterset and Cumming exits because the bridge is not safe for cars to pass under.

Traffic is being detoured using Highway 92 to Highway 28 and then back to Highway 5.

Crews are working to repair the bridge, but the DOT says that portion of road will likely remain closed until Friday May 3.
