The votes are in and an eastern Iowa burger joint is home to this year’s best burger.

The Iowa Beef Council searched far and wide to find the best burger in our state and they decided on the Angus Black Crown Burger found at 61 Chop House Grille in Mediapolis.

The burger consists of an 8-ounce Angus beef patty, topped with a beer-cheese sauce, some pepper Colby jack cheese and apple wood smoked bacon.

The chef says the secret to the burger is simplicity, so that the flavor of the beef is preserved.

The Council began accepting nominations in February and by the end of March they had nearly 350 nominees.  From there they narrowed the finalist down to the 10 restaurants with the most nominations, which included four central Iowa locations. During the month of April an anonymous panel of judges visited the locations and rated the burgers based on presentation, appearance, taste and safety (cooked to a medium 160 degrees).
