Commuters who have been dealing with a detour on northbound Interstate 35 can get back on the road now.

The DOT reopened the northbound lanes near Bevington Thursday evening.

On Monday, 57-year-old Ronald Gage of Waterloo was hauling a back-hoe when he hit a bridge damaging the support beams and making it unsafe for drivers to pass under.

Crews worked for several days to remove the damaged section of bridge, while drivers dealt with an 8-mile detour.

The bridge above the interstate will remain closed for some time.
