A body was found in a field in rural Polk County on Thursday.

Sheriff’s Deputies say someone came across the body at the intersection of Northeast 166th and Northeast 120th near Maxwell and alerted authorities around 1:30 p.m.

The Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man as 49-year-old Barton Tingley of Des Moines.

Authorities say the death does not appear suspicious, but they are continuing to investigate. “It’s sort of a strange situation finding a person that is deceased out in a field, they don’t see any reason for alarm, but they will do a full investigation,” Sgt. Jana Abens said.

The medical examiner’s office must still preform an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
