A man who shot a police officer and then fled the state was back in Sioux City Friday.

Deputies traveled to Texas earlier in the week to extradite 21-year-old Jamal Dean. He is charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Officer Kevin McCormick as well as robbery, burglary and theft.

Dean made his initial appearance in Woodbury County Court where bond was set at $1 million for the murder charge and $50,000 for the other crimes.  His next court date is set for May 20.

He will remain in the custody of the Woodbury County Sheriff.
