It may feel a bit earlier, but the 2016 campaign for president began Friday in Cedar Rapids.
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul served as the keynote speaking for the Iowa Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner. Paul insists he is just considering a run for president, but his speech Friday certainly had the tone of a campaign speech.
The senator began with tales of his small town roots, but quickly switched to offense questioning Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton on the Benghazi attack drawing applause from attendees.
Senator Paul also talked about the importance of Republicans reaching out to minority voters. For the sold out crowd at the Kirkwood Center the message was heard loud and clear.
Later this month Senator Paul will also appear at an event in New Hampshire, the state with the first in the nation primary.
