The warm weather offered the perfect day for a family reunion of sorts. One furry family, whose lives were saved thanks to a group of animal lovers got together for the first time.

“It was fun to watch’em all play again,” Jodi Piagentini said.

A year ago 11 puppies were born in the back seat of a minivan. Volunteers from the Iowa Golden Retriever Rescue made the trip to Missouri to pick up a very pregnant pooch to be adopted, but on the way back to Iowa she went into labor.

As they drove through town after town, they named the puppies accordingly,

“Charlie, Shawnie, Bethany, Joplin, Summit, Liberty, Harrison,” Piagentini laughs.

Since then, their names have changed, they've grown up, and they haven’t seen each other until now.

As the dogs made up for lost time, their owners were meeting for the first time.

“It was the first time we really got to see everybody and who the dogs all went to,” Teri Bedard explained.

But this definitely won’t be the last, “Everyone has talked about staying in touch and hopefully getting together next year,” Piagentini says.

The families haven't yet set a date for next year's reunion, but they hope they can make this get together an annual event.
