Some Iowa veterans are hoping to knock down the competition in New York later this month.

The 2013 Golden Age Games begin in Buffalo on May 30th and several Iowa veterans are taking part in the bowling tournament.

Participants met at Plaza Lanes Monday to practice.

The games are organized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs which sees sports as rehabilitation.

“Just to get out be social and get involved with various other people and social rather than staying back at the home where they are by themselves. It’s very beneficial that they get out and do this type of stuff,” says recreational therapist Joe Padilla.

In addition to bowling, the games include checkers, golf, shuffleboard, croquet, and dominoes.
