A Mason City man has been found guilty of first degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.

The Mason City Globe-Gazette reports Aaron Harris was found guilty Monday in Cerro Gordo County court.

Prosecutors say Harris strangled his girlfriend Sarah Winters on July 10, 2012 at his rooming house. His defense tried to argue that Harris had diminished capacity because he was drunk at the time of the murder.

Harris faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. A date for his sentencing hasn’t been set.
