It’s going to be another busy Memorial Day weekend on the nation’s roadways.

AAA predicts nearly 35 million Americans will be traveling away from home. That’s about a 1-percent decline from last year. Travel by car is expected to be up slightly and will be the transportation of choice for 89-percent of travelers.

Air travel on the other hand is expected to see a significant decline of about 8-percent.

“As to the more significant decline in terms of air travel, we believe that it is a combination of consumers’ concerns relative to fairs, fees and frustrations overall,” Robert L. Darbelnet, CEO of AAA said.

AAA says those who do travel this weekend will spend less. On average, they’ll spend $659 compared to $702 last year.
