The Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy is now complete. The strategy evaluates and helps reduce the amount of nutrients that get into Iowa waterways and the Gulf of Mexico. The focus of the strategy is on point source, waste-water treatment plants, and non-point sources, farm fields and cities.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Iowa State University came together on this issue to finish the strategy. It took two years in the making then there was a comment period, where over 1,700 comments were received.
