An Ames man has a dream and even cancer couldn’t keep him from chasing it.

“My dream has been to bring a Nashville quality recording studio to Ames. I went to Nashville and toured some of the music studios on music row…and took notes,” says Dennis Haislip of Alexander Recording Kompany.

Haislip recovered from cancer surgery just a year ago. He then bought and remodeled an old house which was formerly a photography studio.

Haislip loves producing and engineering music, or laying down voice recordings. He says he is also in the business of transferring old LPs to digital formats.

He has worked with recording clients at a smaller Ames location but says he’s ready to do more in the new studio.

If you want to check out his new digs, Haislip is holding an open house on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

You can find the studio at 622 Douglas, one block north of the old Ames library.

Alexander Recording Kompany is named after Haislip’s 13-year-old son.
