Two Waverly teenagers are lacing up their sneakers and hitting the pavement for a purpose.

Seventeen-year-old Ethan Wise and his friend Brad Wylam are running across the state to raise awareness about malaria.

Their trek begins on Tuesday in Hall. They’ll end up in Dubuque on July 2.

Their friend Scott VanDaalen will drive alongside them and serve as their support during the trip.

The teens plan on speaking at area churches and civic organizations during each stop to raise awareness about malaria and raise funding for malaria research.

“It’s completely unfair,” said Wise. “Just because they live in a foreign country doesn’t mean that they deserve that.”

“Everybody is a human being, so it doesn’t matter where you’re from or where you come from,” said Wylam.

The group plans to be in Mason City by June 23. Learn more about their cause and their route here.
