Meals from the Heartland begins work Monday on a new permanent home.

Since 2008, more than 100,000 volunteers have packaged more than 31-million meals for hungry people in Iowa and around the world.

A celebratory groundbreaking is being held Monday afternoon on a new packaging headquarters. The nearly 15,000 square-foot facility will be located at 357 Lincoln Street in West Des Moines.

Businessman Bill Knapp is donating nearly three-acres of land for the facility to be built on and the organization has raised 92-percent of what they need to fund the $1.9 million project.
