Gov. Terry Branstad is in eastern Iowa Tuesday getting a firsthand look at the damage left by storms in and around Muscatine.

Two of the buildings that were hardest hit were Krieger Collision Center and Calvary Church. The governor met with the owner of the repair shop who says one of his workers died when he was hit by flying debris during Monday’s storm.

He says about 20 of his employees hid inside of a cement room when the storm came.

“Obviously we have substantial damage to the church here…and Krieger’s. I also understand there were a number of semis tipped over and other homes,” said Branstad.

The National Weather Service is still working to determine whether the storm was a tornado or not.

Gov. Branstad is also visiting Waukon Tuesday to look at flooding damage there.
