Police say a Des Moines man was shot during a home invasion Saturday morning on the city’s east side and now they are trying to figure out who is responsible.

The shooting happened at 1212 East 27th Court around 5:30 AM.

People living in the home say two white males broke in and one of them shot 44-year-old Michael Howser in the chest.

Howser was taken to a local hospital where he has been treated for minor injuries.

“It was sort of a lucky shot. He was shot in the chest with a small caliber weapon. He was taken to the hospital, the bullet was removed, and he’s recovering,” said Sgt. Steve Woody.

Officers removed at least one weapon from the home.

Police have not released the name of any suspects.
