The Iowa State Trooper who was driving Gov. Terry Branstad’s SUV in April when it was clocked going 84 miles per hour on Highway 20 near Iowa Falls has now been ticketed in the incident.

According to the Hamilton County Clerk of Court, Trooper Steve Lawrence paid the speeding ticket Friday. It was a speeding citation with a fine of $181.50.

The ticket was issued Thursday by a Major with the Iowa State Patrol.

The Department of Public Safety announced Friday it has completed a review of the speeding case and say the appropriate disciplinary actions were taken in connection with work rule violations.

Controversy over the firing of the DCI agent who reported the speeding SUV, then questioned why the governor’s driver wasn’t ticketed, has resulted in a war of words between Gov. Terry Branstad and the fired agent Larry Hedlund.
